Standing Fast in the Faith

In I Corinthians 16:13 we are told, "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong." Considering the enormous task before us as we live this "life of royalty," it is important that we stand fast in the faith knowing that we can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Because we belong to God, we can say as David did in Psalm 28:7: "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him." Note that David said, "I am helped," not I was helped, or I will be helped. The indication here is that God's help is ever present. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" is told to us in Psalm 46:1. Remember, God tells us in Isaiah 65:24 that before we call, He will answer us, and while we are yet speaking, He will hear. And Jesus said, ". . . I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20). Help from our Lord is continuous and constant help.

God tells us, "For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but My kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of My peace be removed . . ." (Isaiah 54:10). It does not matter what is going on around us, we can rest assured (in faith) that God is there for us, He will see us through, for ". . . we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture" (Psalm 100:3). Also, we know that we can cast our burdens upon Him and He will sustain us. He has said  “. . . He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved," and when "we call Him He will hear our voice" (Psalm 55:16-17).

Because we know that God is good, merciful, and faithful, we can stand on His promise, in faith, to provide the substance (things seen) of our hope (things unseen). However, we must remember that, ". . . Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone" (James 2:17). Our faith must be active faith, doing faith, the faith that motivates us to "Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). God has called us to do great things for His Glory, and we must "be about our Father's business" (Luke 2:49) as we live a life that is pleasing to Him.
